What is covered and not covered?

The insurance company will generally pay for new medical conditions, injuries (caused either by accidents or otherwise) or sicknesses that may occur after the effective date of the policy. It does not cover any expenses related to pre-existing conditions, preventive check ups, immunizations or maternity.

Prescription drugs are covered like any other eligible medical expenses. More information. Emergency Dental Treatment to sound and natural teeth is covered up to $2,000 in the case of an accident under this insurance, and up to $250 for acute pain to sound and natural teeth.

InterMedical provides coverage anywhere outside the United States including travel time as well. It also includes coverage for loss of checked luggage.

How much is covered?

First, you will have to pay your chosen deductible once per policy period (varies from $0 to $1,000) before the insurance company begins paying anything for the covered expenses, even for doctor visits. The deductible is not just for the hospitalization. There is no concept of copay.

After that, the plan pays 100% up to the selected policy maximum, either $50,000, $100,000 or $150,000.

Example:

Lets assume that you have purchased a $100,000 policy maximum with a $50 deductible for 3 months.

  • The first time you visit the doctor, lets assume that a doctor charges you $150. You will have to pay the first $50. The insurance company will pay the remaining $100.

For any subsequent treatment for the same condition, you don't have to pay the deductible again. The insurance company will pay 100% for covered medical expenses, up to $100,000. If you incur any expenses beyond $100,000 per incident, you will be responsible to pay that amount.

  • Let's assume that you were in an accident and are hospitalized for 2 days. The hospital charges $12,000 per day for a total bill of $24,000. After you pay the deductible of $50, the insurance company will pay the rest.
